Perch readily spawn in lakes and ponds when the water temperature reaches 45 to 50 degrees F in several feet of water by depositing a gelatinous mass over weeds or brush. Perch will feed on minnows, insects, crayfish and snails. Traveling in schools, perch tend to stay in deeper water in daylight moving toward the shallows at night.
A 1-second burst of 50% sinking commercial feeds (mixture of both 0.8mm crumble fines and 3/32" pellet) was broadcast every 30 minutes for 4 hours. The eight feedings each night totaled approximately 1.5 lbs of feed per night. This video was taken 7-weeks after starting the feeding regime.
During winter, perch often move to deeper waters, feeding exclusively off the bottom. On some lakes, anglers fish in 20 to 50 feet of water to catch yellow perch in the winter. Ice anglers fish for perch with short jig poles, some with specialized spools only large enough to accommodate 50 to 60 feet of line.

The lowest it has got since it was built in 2000 was like 12-14 FOW. I was wondering what you would think of putting yellow perch in this spring. The bass population is pretty strong and there are quite a few tanks.
Several important items are required for consistently growing only yellow perch in ponds. The smaller the pond is the easier it is to maintain as a yellow perch only pond. In my experiences the best size for perch only ponds are ones of 0.2 to 0.5 acre. Smaller ponds make it simpler to manually remove excess small perch whenever necessary.
